Dartmouth covers an unusual range. The northern part is farmland and university territory around UMass Dartmouth. The south runs down through Padanaram to Apponagansett Bay and genuinely exposed Buzzards Bay shorefront. Those are two different climates for a fence and we specify them differently.
On the coast it is the familiar story: salt, wind, and material that has to be chosen for both. Inland, on the farms and the wooded parcels, the constraints vanish and agricultural fencing takes over. It is one of the few towns where we might install a paddock fence and a shorefront pool enclosure in the same week.
What we plan for in Dartmouth
- Coastal south takes direct Buzzards Bay exposure; the inland north has none of it.
- Working farmland in the north calls for livestock-grade fencing and long runs.
- Padanaram and the bay edges bring conservation jurisdiction into play.
- University-area rental property wants durable, maintenance-free material.

Permits in Dartmouth
Coastal properties can carry constraints beyond ordinary residential zoning, including conservation jurisdiction near marsh, bank and wetland, and in some areas flood-zone considerations. Fence height rules are set locally and we will not state a number we have not checked for your address. Confirm with the Town of Dartmouth Building Department before ordering material. Attached decks almost always require a permit and an inspection.

Fencing and decks in Dartmouth: your questions
Is South Dartmouth different from North Dartmouth?
Completely, for our purposes. Padanaram and the shorefront deal with salt and wind and need coated material and hardware throughout. North Dartmouth is inland farmland and university housing with no corrosion issue at all. Same town, opposite specifications, so we quote them on what is actually in front of us.
Do you do agricultural fencing in Dartmouth?
Yes, on the farmland in the northern and western parts of the town. Post-and-rail, wire systems and paddock work with braced corners and proper tension. It is a different build from residential panel fencing and it needs to be, because the loads and the failure modes are not the same.
Which parts of Dartmouth do you cover?
All of it. That includes Padanaram, South Dartmouth, North Dartmouth, Russells Mills and the rest of the town, across ZIP 02747 and 02748. Dartmouth sits inside our 35 mile radius from Plymouth, along with the rest of Bristol County.
What does a fence or deck cost in Dartmouth?
It depends on material, linear footage, height, terrain and how many gates you need, and on a typical lot here the run length is the main driver. Most of our residential projects land between $1,500 and $12,000. Estimates are free, quoted line by line, with no hidden fees.
Do I need a permit in Dartmouth?
Quite possibly, and the requirements are set locally rather than statewide. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection, and fences above a certain height often do. Confirm with the Town of Dartmouth Building Department before you order material. We build to whatever they approve and will flag at the estimate what your project is likely to need.
Trusted across the South Shore
Working with Sandra could not have been easier. She and her team were extremely responsive, reasonably priced and did a great job repairing our fence. She went the extra mile for us and we were so impressed. Will absolutely do business with her again.
Very responsive and professional. They came out right away to fix my fence when no other fence company responded.
Wonderful to work with! After installation I had a concern and they really worked hard to rectify it.
