Fence & Deck Installation in Forestdale
A wooded, inland village of Sandwich where the trees, not the salt, set the constraints.

Forestdale sits inland from the Sandwich coast, and it is one of the few parts of the Cape where salt is not the first thing we think about. What you get instead are trees. Established pines and oaks across most of the village mean a fence line rarely runs clean, and post placement usually has to negotiate around root systems that are not visible until we start digging.
That inland position opens up material choice considerably. Cedar and pressure-treated wood perform well here in a way they would not two miles closer to the bay, so if you want the look of real wood this is a village where it makes sense. Vinyl still wins on maintenance, but the trade-off is genuinely closer than it is elsewhere on the Cape.
What we plan for in Forestdale
- Root systems from mature pines and oaks dictate post spacing more than any other factor here.
- Less direct salt exposure than coastal Sandwich, which widens what is sensible to install.
- Shaded, damp fence lines under heavy tree cover hold moisture, so ground contact detailing matters.
- Larger, wooded lots often need a clear working line established before any posts go in.

Permits in Forestdale
Cape towns each set their own fence height limits and permit thresholds, and several also carry historic district or conservation review that ordinary zoning does not. We will not quote you a height limit we have not verified for your address. Confirm with the Town of Forestdale Building Department, and if your property sits near a wetland, pond or the coastal bank, ask about conservation commission jurisdiction as well. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection.

Fencing and decks in Forestdale: your questions
Can you run a fence line through a wooded Forestdale lot?
Usually, but it needs a clear working line first. Brush and low branches have to come out along the run so posts can be set plumb and panels hung square. Large stumps and boulders are a separate job we do not take on, so if the line is genuinely obstructed we will flag that at the estimate rather than discovering it on install day.
Is wood a better choice here than on the coast?
It is a more defensible choice. Without constant salt air, pressure-treated and cedar hold up noticeably better in Forestdale than they do in a bayside location. You still reseal every two to three years and the heavy tree shade keeps fence lines damp, so it is maintenance you are choosing rather than maintenance you avoid.
Which parts of Forestdale do you cover?
All of it. That includes Forestdale, South Sandwich, Snake Pond area, Ridge Club area and the rest of the town, across ZIP 02644. Forestdale sits inside our 35 mile radius from Plymouth, along with the rest of Barnstable County.
What does a fence or deck cost in Forestdale?
It depends on material, linear footage, height, terrain and how many gates you need, and on a typical lot here the run length is the main driver. Most of our residential projects land between $1,500 and $12,000. Estimates are free, quoted line by line, with no hidden fees.
Do I need a permit in Forestdale?
Quite possibly, and the requirements are set locally rather than statewide. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection, and fences above a certain height often do. Confirm with the Town of Forestdale Building Department before you order material. We build to whatever they approve and will flag at the estimate what your project is likely to need.
