Carver is cranberry country, and the bogs define the landscape and the ground conditions. Between the working bogs, Myles Standish State Forest and the sandy pine barrens that run through this part of the county, it is one of the more distinctive places we work and one where standard residential assumptions do not always transfer.
Sand and bog are the two extremes here, and both need thinking about. Sandy soil drains beautifully but does not grip a post unless the footing is properly sized. Bog-adjacent ground holds water and works on footings through freeze-thaw. Neither is difficult once identified, which is exactly why the first hole tells us more than any description could.
What we plan for in Carver
- Sandy pine-barren soil across much of the town needs adequate footing volume to hold.
- Bog-adjacent ground holds water, which affects curing and long-term post stability.
- Large agricultural parcels favour post-and-rail and wire systems over residential panel.
- Myles Standish State Forest borders much of the town, so wooded boundary lines are common.

Permits in Carver
Larger parcels bring their own questions: frontage rules, agricultural exemptions and, near water, conservation jurisdiction. Requirements are set locally and we will not state a limit we have not verified for your address. Confirm with the Town of Carver Building Department. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection regardless of lot size.

Fencing and decks in Carver: your questions
Does sandy soil hold a fence post properly in Carver?
It does if the footing is sized for it. Sand gives up its grip more readily than dense soil, so the concrete has to do more work through diameter and depth rather than relying on the surrounding ground. Set correctly it is very stable, and it has the advantage of draining rather than holding water against the post base.
Do you work around active cranberry bogs?
We install boundary and access fencing on properties with bogs, and we are careful about where equipment travels. Bog infrastructure itself, including anything to do with water control, is specialist work outside what we take on. Tell us at the estimate what is active and what the access constraints are, and we will plan the run around them.
Which parts of Carver do you cover?
All of it. That includes Carver Center, North Carver, South Carver, East Carver and the rest of the town, across ZIP 02330. Carver sits inside our 35 mile radius from Plymouth, along with the rest of Plymouth County.
What does a fence or deck cost in Carver?
It depends on material, linear footage, height, terrain and how many gates you need, and on a large parcel the run length dominates the price. Most of our residential projects land between $1,500 and $12,000. Estimates are free, quoted line by line, with no hidden fees.
Do I need a permit in Carver?
Quite possibly, and the requirements are set locally rather than statewide. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection, and fences above a certain height often do. Confirm with the Town of Carver Building Department before you order material. We build to whatever they approve and will flag at the estimate what your project is likely to need.
