Fence & Deck Installation in Norwell
Wooded, generous lots along the North River, where fence lines usually work around mature trees.

Norwell has kept more of its woodland than most South Shore towns, with large lots, tree cover on most properties and the North River running along its northern boundary. It is a town where the trees, not the neighbours, tend to dictate where a fence can go.
That changes how we plan. On a Norwell property the straight line between two corners frequently runs through a root mass that has been there for fifty years, and the sensible answer is usually to move the posts rather than the tree. We walk the line before quoting so those decisions are yours rather than a surprise.
What we plan for in Norwell
- Mature tree cover across most properties means root systems dictate post placement.
- North River and its marshes bring conservation jurisdiction into play on the northern edge.
- Large lots and long runs favour materials that do not need a maintenance cycle.
- Wooded lines usually need light clearing before posts can be set plumb.

Permits in Norwell
Fence height limits, particularly for street-facing runs, are set by each municipality rather than statewide, so we will not quote you a figure we have not verified here. Check with the Town of Norwell Building Department before you order material. Attached decks almost always need a permit and at least one inspection, usually of the footings and framing before the decking goes down.

Fencing and decks in Norwell: your questions
Will you have to cut trees to run my Norwell fence?
We would rather not, and usually do not have to. Post positions can shift within reason to clear a root mass, and light clearing of brush and low branches is part of the job. Removing an actual tree is a different trade and outside what we take on. If your line genuinely requires it we will say so at the estimate.
Does heavy shade affect a wood fence here?
It does. Fence lines under dense Norwell tree cover stay damp longer after rain, which accelerates weathering on wood and encourages growth on any surface. It does not rule wood out, but it does mean the sealing cycle is at the shorter end of the two to three year range, and vinyl looks better for longer in those conditions.
Which parts of Norwell do you cover?
All of it. That includes Norwell Center, Church Hill, Ridge Hill, Assinippi and the rest of the town, across ZIP 02061. Norwell sits inside our 35 mile radius from Plymouth, along with the rest of Plymouth County.
What does a fence or deck cost in Norwell?
It depends on material, linear footage, height, terrain and how many gates you need, and on a typical lot here the run length is the main driver. Most of our residential projects land between $1,500 and $12,000. Estimates are free, quoted line by line, with no hidden fees.
Do I need a permit in Norwell?
Quite possibly, and the requirements are set locally rather than statewide. Attached decks almost always need a permit and an inspection, and fences above a certain height often do. Confirm with the Town of Norwell Building Department before you order material. We build to whatever they approve and will flag at the estimate what your project is likely to need.
